The Open Letter for Europe is a cross-party and cross-border initiative by national parliamentarians who have chosen to speak up for Europe.

57 national members of parliaments – including from Greece, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Hungary, and the UK – have decided to take to the stage in unity, across borders and across political parties. In an open letter to colleagues across the EU –  there are about 10.000 national parliamentarians in Europe - signatories vow to take on political and personal responsibility for the future of the EU project.

The initiators, Carles Campuzano i Canades (Partit Demòcrata Europeu Català, Spain), Lolita Čigāne (Unity Parliamentary Group, Latvia), Stephen Gethins (Scottish National Party, UK), Duarte Marques (Partido Social Democrata, Portugal) and Harry Theocharis (Independent, Greece), had the chance to get to know each other and work together on European issues through the Mercator European Dialogue.

If you wish to be a part of this effort and play a role in the dissemination of the initiative either at the national or European level, or for any other information, please contact the secretariat.

Sign the letter to show your support and take responsibility for a more genuine European discourse.

The Mercator European Dialogue is a project by the German Marshall Fund of the United States in cooperation with the Barcelona Center for International Affairs, the Istituto Affari Internazionali and the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy. The project is funded by Stiftung Mercator and since 2017 also by the King Baudouin Foundation.

The Open Letter for Europe Initiative is hosted by the Mercator European Dialogue secretariat, yet it does not reflect the views of the Mercator European Dialogue and is not representative of the different views and voices of our network. The views expressed in the Open Letter are those of the signatories alone.
